Commas are important in reading speaking and writing. Here are 3 examples on when you need to use a comma and why!

1: In case you didn’t notice, I didn’t use a comma when I told you “ Commas are important in reading speaking and writing”. There was a comma supposed to be in front of “reading” and “speaking”. The grammatically correct version of that sentence is “Commas are important in reading, speaking, and writing”. The reason there are commas here is because I listed more than 2 things. You have to use a comma when listing more than 2 things.

2: Commas can be used to combine 2 sentences. A comma alone can’t combine 2 sentences unless its with a conjunction. For example, “Joe got a new bike today, and he said I could play with it”. The conjunction “and” combines the two sentences with the help of the comma.

3: Commas also must be used after transitional phrases. “For example,” Is a good example because usually there is a sentence after it explaining a certain thing.
